Make Sure Your New HVAC System Isn’t a Turkey

The Experienced Team at Frog Serves Up Choice Solutions

Everyone knows the turkey is the star of any traditional Thanksgiving dinner. So, when you’re in charge of preparing the meal, you need to shop for a bird that’s large enough to satisfy your hungry guests. Otherwise, you could end up with egg on your face—and a dining room full of unhappy people.

It’s all about proper planning, which is equally important when you’re purchasing a new HVAC system. When you’re in search of cooling and heating service experts in Brentwood, TN, and throughout the area who can guide you through every step of the planning process, you don’t have to look any farther than Frog Heating, Air & Electrical.

Choose Wisely

Experienced cooks know there’s a trick to making sure the turkey is neither too small nor too large. However, some will argue there’s no such thing as a turkey that’s too big. (Yum. Leftovers!) For everyone else, the rule of thumb is 1 pound of turkey per serving when the turkey weighs 16 pounds or less. Larger birds have a higher meat-to-bone percentage so a little less per person should be OK. Here’s an easy guide, which allows for seconds and leftovers:

  • 8 people, 12-pound turkey
  • 10 people, 15-pound turkey
  • 12 people, 18-pound turkey
  • 14 people, 20-pound turkey

Keep Your Eye on the Timer

If you’re not sure how long to roast young Tom, here’s a simple guide based on a stuffed bird and an oven set at 325 degrees:

  • 12 pounds, 3 to 4 hours
  • 15 pounds, 4 to 4½ hours
  • 18 pounds, 4½ to 5 hours
  • 20 pounds, 5 to 6 hours

Reduce the roasting time by 20 to 40 minutes if the bird isn’t stuffed. Plus, keep in mind that it will take longer to cook your bird if the oven is crowded with side dishes or other items.

No Room for Failure in This Kitchen, Either

When you’re buying a brand new HVAC system or replacing an old one, you also want to make sure your purchase is neither too big nor too small. When your heating system is too small, chances are it won’t be able to keep up with the comfort demands of your household. When your heating system is too large, it can get uncomfortably warm in some areas that are already warmed up as the system continues working to heat up colder areas. Plus, an oversized heating system is less efficient, cycling off and on more frequently. That will cost you more money and wear out your system faster.

The experienced team at Frog will size up your space and recommend the system that keeps you comfy and cozy without putting an unnecessary strain on your budget.
